| EgyptAir
is a deep rooted airline established 69 years ago
(in 1932).
Throughout
the past years EgyptAir owned and operated
many different kinds of civil aircraft and was
the first airline in the Middle East to operate
the jet liners.
In
the beginning of 1980, EgyptAir started to achieve
a great progress, developing it from an airline
using only 7 Boeing B 707 and 7 B 737 to a big
market oriented self financing airline.

Although
EgyptAir is a state owned company, but duly vested with its
own legislation as a deregulated autonomous organization.
Starting
from 1980, EgyptAir carried out a dedicated study of the
international and local markets to evaluate the total domestic
and international traffic volume. According to such study,
we have planned our network to obtain our fair share of this
traffic, reaching main cities in the five continents.
To
satisfy the needs of such evaluation, EgyptAir purchased the
most modern aircraft, long, medium and short range/narrow,
medium and wide body ones. This was followed by developing
the infrastructure to support and serve our fleet to operate
safely with best services on economic basis, financed from
the international and local banks.
The
developing expenses were totally evaluated, the conditions
and terms of loans from international banks were defined,
feasibility studies were carried out which resulted in the
primary stride to work out.
From
this solid base, we started to re-establish EgyptAir , on a
stepped pyramid form, its base was the most profitable markets,
so we purchased 8 Airbus A 300 / B4, wide body medium range
aircraft, to cover the international markets in Europe and
Middle East in a total cost of 382.8 million USD. That step
which was carried out in September 1980 is considered to be
the base step in our gradual developing process.
|
The
perfect economic operation of these aircraft, enabled
EgyptAir to fulfill its financial obligations towards
the European banks, this was certified by letters from
lenders, copies of which are enclosed.
To
cover domestic market specially in Sinai, EgyptAir purchased
3 Dutch Fokker F27 aircraft.
In
order to develop far markets, EgyptAir purchased 3 Boeing
B767 / 200 ER long range ones.
|
|
To
increase EgyptAir s capabilities to serve this far markets
and to cope with the needs of the fast growing ones, EgyptAir
purchased 2 Boeing B747 / 300 combi followed by 2 B767/ 300
ER.
A
major step followed to renew the medium range wide body type
we purchased 9 Airbus A300 / 600, and also replacing the medium
range medium capacity aircraft with 7 Airbus A320/200, thus
EgyptAir considered to be one of the first operators of this
high technology type, which later become the most widely operated
by many airlines.
In
order to link our local touristic market directly with international
destinations, EgyptAir Purchased 5 Boeing B737 /500 to replace
the B737 / 200 which had served for more than 20 years.
To
fulfill the needs of our markets in Japan and North America,
we purchased 3 Airbus A340/200 and 3 Boeing B777/200 Ultra
Long Range aircraft to serve non-stop flights. EgyptAir
was one of the first operators in the region using these two
types which are considered to be the latest development of
Boeing and Airbus Industry.
This
was followed by purchasing 4 Airbus A321/200 to serve charter
operations to contribute in tourism development.
Recently
EgyptAir financed a contract of purchasing 3 Airbus A318/200
planned to be delivered early 2002.
The
total expenses for modernizing our fleet reached 3112 million
USD were paid as down payments, technical support and installments
of loans, in addition to 524,7 USD as loan interests.
