The Cairo Opero Choir


Formed in 1956, the Cairo Opera Choir presents Choral works during the opera seasons. When first established, the Choir consisted of 80 singers led by Attora Cordoni, followed by Vittorio Barbieri and later Adriano Grosi.Today the Choir is coached and directed by Aldo Magnato.

 

Gihan Morsi


Gihan Morsi graduated with distinction from the Cairo Coservatoire where she studied singing with Violette Makkar and Carmen Zaki. She received further training at Opera Nice and received first prize in the singing competition sponsored by the Ministry of Culture in Cairo. She joined the Cairo Opera company in 1987. Performing such roles as Flora in verdi's La Traviata and Mercedes in Bizet's Carmen. Among others Gihan Morsi has also given numerous recitals.

She also directed Operas in one act such as; "Imprersario", and "The Servant lady". Gihan was Assistant Director of famous Operas like "Aida", "La Boheme", "Don Giovanni", "Ballo in Maschera", "La Traviata" and "Le Nozze Di Figaro" presented at Cairo Opera House.

Gihan Morsi was Assistant Director at the "Aida" of Luxor with the Italian Director Vittorio Rossi and later with the Italian Director Atilio Colonello. She also participated as assistant director in the opera "Thais" with the French Director Jean-Louis Pichon in December 97 and "The Barber of Seville" with Sandro Sequi in March 98. She directed "La Boheme" at the Cairo Opera House (June 98).

She also was assistant Director at the "Aida" of Pyramids and "Turandot" with the Italian Director Mario Bertolino.

Dr. Abdel Moneim Kamel


An Egyptian artist, who studied Ballet in Egypt and the Soviet Union. In the beginning, he was well known as a distinguished ballet dancer, after that he started choreographing a number of performances such as "EL Somoud", "Carmen Suite" , "Osiris", and "El Nile" with Erminia Kamel as well as "Abu Simbel" with a Japanese Choreographer.

It should be pointed out that his name was mentioned in the Oxford Ballet dictionary as a choreographer. Currently, he is the artistic director of the Cairo Opera Ballet Company. He directed a number of Ballet performances. Abdel Moneim Kamel was awarded a number of international prizes in addition to state awards.

 

Abdel Wahab El Sayed (Baritone)


Abdel Wahab El Sayed studied singing under professor Nabila Erian at the Cairo Conservatoire. He has appeared in many major operas, such as; Madame Butterfly, Tosca, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Aida, the Masked Ball, La traviata and others. He also took part in the Opera The Pearl Fishers with stars of the Paris opera and also in the Servant Lady.

He participated in the Mediterranean Festival in Italy and the Carthage Festival in Tunisia, he has also presented various recitals at the Cairo Opera House and at major concert halls in Cairo. Recently, he participated in the Alexandrias of the World Festival with the opera Otello, and presented Mandarine in Opera Turandot.
